WHAT IT IS:
This is the expansion tank located in the rear trunk (where you add coolant and check the oil level).
QUANTITY:
One OEM Porsche Expansion Tank. Part #996-106-447-01
APPLICATION:
Type 986 Boxster 2.5-liter, 2.7-liter 1997-2004
COMMENTS:
Unfortunately this is one of those parts that just simply gets old with age and leaks and/or cracks. If you've noticed coolant temps running a bit high (even without a tell-tale puddle), there is a good chance that your tank is letting some pressure out and preventing it from working at 100 percent capacity. It's a major PITA to remove/replace, so prepare to lose some of that precious skin on your knuckles.
