WHAT IT IS:

This is a genuine Porsche brand-new engine Air Oil Separator.

One air oil separator. Part #996 107 023 04

APPLICATION: 

COMMENTS: 

A common indicator of a failing Air Oil Separator (AOS) is excessive smoke coming from the exhaust. An occasional puff of light blue smoke at startup is common in flat six motors due to how the oil drains within the engine when the car is sitting. If the smoke increases or continues while running it is more than likely a hole in the AOS which compromises its ability to control excessive pressure from the crankcase. This overwhelms the AOS, dumping more oil into the flow that cannot be burned off by the normal combustion process. In addition it allows more air into the flow downstream from the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor confusing the MAF which can further contribute to a poor running engine.

GSR Helpful Hint:

If your installing this with the motor in the car the stock clamps are a bit of a pain to get back on due to the confined space around the oil separator. You are much better off using a standard metal hose clamp. This will save you some time and skin off your knuckles. If you are dead set on the stock clamp the part # is 999 512 630 00.
